Strengthening Communities Fund

DMT Helps Strengthen Communities, Nonprofits, and Faith-Based Initiatives


Faith-based and community organizations (FBCOs) have unique strengths—for example, the trust of their communities—that the government cannot replicate. Unfortunately, critical community needs can overwhelm the resources of many FBCOs. In 2002, the government established the Compassion Capital Fund (CCF) to increase these organizations' scale and effectiveness. In 2009, the CCF program came to a close, passing the torch to the Strengthening Communities Fund (SCF), which helps organizations address the broad economic recovery issues present in their communities. During this transition, DMT helped ensure that no ground was lost. To keep all of the research and resources that had been developed for CCF intact, DMT created Strengthening Nonprofits: A Capacity Builder's Resource Library, a free, publically available website that contains guidebooks and online trainings on a variety of topics relevant to nonprofits and community organizations.

In total, SCF-funded organizations increased the number of people they served by 60 percent.

DMT's Benchmarking Reports Move the Process Forward


Benchmarking reports capture the benchmarking process methodology, narrative overview, practice profiles and, in most cases, a logic model that depicts the practices discovered through the benchmarking study.

The report’s creation is a collaborative process that ensures the integration of client feedback for additional research or clarification. 

Benchmarking study results may be shared and promoted in a number of ways, including:

  • Integration into new or existing training or technical assistance programs
  • At a customized training summit
  • Online publication and promotion
  • Viral promotion
  • Virtual or in-person panel discussion with the experts
  • At pre-existing client-centered events (annual conferences, workshops)

DMT Helps Clients Package and Promote Best Practices and Resources


Many organizations know they have great resources, but finding, consolidating, packaging, and presenting them in a way that can be accessed by users across their organizations can be a challenge. Toolkits can play an important role in an organization’s approach to knowledge management. When a client is ready to adapt and replicate the practices, models, and resources uncovered in the benchmarking process, toolkits help consolidate and organize the tools you need to implement promising practices.

DMT's most recent toolkit production was for the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program and Comprehensive Service Support, an initiative under the National Guard. For this work, DMT:

  • Conducted site visits for rapid-cycle benchmarking to uncover hundreds of resources from state staff and volunteers
  • Developed 12 detailed online toolkits offering models and resources based on site visits
  • Produced online tutorials, webinars, and classroom workshops to help program staff understand and fully utilize toolkits

DMT's E-Learning Combines Subject Matter Expertise with Technical Know-How


E-learning saves time and travel costs without sacrificing the quality of the learning experience. It has become an integral part of many of our clients’ blended learning programs that combine online and in-person training.

Dare Mighty Things combines our clients’ and our consultants’ deep subject matter knowledge with our in-house design and technology expertise to create dynamic, self-guided e-learning lessons. E-learning can be posted on a website, provided on CDs or DVDs, or integrated into a learning management system to meet more robust tracking and evaluation needs.

We create opportunities for practical application, incorporating activities, quizzes, video, audio, and text. Learners can navigate freely through an e-learning lesson, setting their own pace and revisiting chapters and activities as they see fit, while our clients can be assured that learners have access to consistent and robust content.
